Long ago, in a time of myth and legend, the world was ruled by ten suns, each taking its turn to cross the sky and bring light and warmth to the land. But one day, the ten suns grew restless and decided to rise all at once, scorching the earth below and threatening to burn the world to ash.
The people of the land cried out for help, and the god of archery, Hou Yi, answered their call. Armed with his trusty bow and arrow, Hou Yi ascended to the top of a great mountain and took aim at the suns.
With a mighty twang of his bowstring, Hou Yi shot down nine of the suns, leaving only one to light the sky. The world was saved, but the consequences of Hou Yi’s actions were severe.
The loss of nine suns threw the world into chaos, and the land was plunged into a bitter cold that threatened to kill all life. To prevent this, Hou Yi and his wife, Chang’e, sought out the elixir of immortality, a mystical potion that would grant eternal life to whoever consumed it.
But when a thief stole the elixir, Chang’e was forced to drink it herself, soaring into the sky and becoming the goddess of the moon. And so, the world was forever changed by the myth of the ten suns, a cautionary tale about the dangers of hubris and the power of sacrifice.
